Volunteer Accident Insurance for Externs

Most of the time, veterinary student externs and technician student externs are covered under their school's worker's compensation insurance. In instances where they are not covered by their school's policy, we are pleased to provide coverage for veterinary student externs and technician student externs with Volunteer Accident Insurance through Berkley Accident and Health.

If an extern gets injured while performing their duties and is not covered by their school's policy, please use the following approach:

You will need your extern’s name and address as well as the policy number below.

There is no set procedure for seeking medical attention. An injured extern can go to any properly licensed urgent care facility to seek treatment in a claim scenario.
They should not utilize their health insurance as this Volunteer Accident Insurance coverage is primary.
After filing, you will receive claim forms to fill out, and those will need to be sent back within 15 days of receipt.
